...welcome...to our newest Earth Angel...Emma of Skippy Cotton

Across my 25 years in the business of handmade, I've learned it's still a rare and beautiful thing to watch an artist work in their studio...

When someone works where they live, their space has an even deeper texture... another layer of living and collecting to absorb their
inspiration and their aesthetic.

I was just in the home and studio of Emma Mierop of Skippy Cotton... we've begin to work together to present her machine embroidery creations to a wider audience...and it was a thrill to experience her style in action...

A few peeks at her home are below...
AND  you will find more peeks at her studio in an upcoming issue of

I love everthing she creates...and I have a much deeper appreciation for her inspiration now that I have been in her charming home and among her collections...

thank you Emma for sharing your
style and your talent...

exciting news...and WELCOME SASHA

I wanted to share some lovely news...
we have a someone new among the ranks of the Earth Angels Featured Artists

WELCOME SASHA POKRASS

Each designer toy creation is a sweet surprise laden with detail...

When I asked Sasha to share a little about herself with readers, here's what she said...

I started to make toys when I was 8 and was rather successful. I always had my own pocket money, I traveled a lot and was featured in TV programs about handmade stuff.
When a teenager I had other interests and forgot about toy making.
"Relapse" happened to me 9 years ago when I wanted to make a handmade gift for my friend. I made a teddy bear and then I couldn't  stop!!! I worked in the office that time so I had to give up job to make toymaking my main occupation.
I love to experiment with materials, colors, size, shapes, characters...

I especially love her pieces featuring the "Napoleon Hats"!
...and I am definitely partial to her petite creations...there's a sure charm in them...

Here are some other faves...
Thanks to Sasha for sharing her talent...I am loving all that she has made for us to share on the site...and we are hoping for more SOON!!

I am thrilled and honored to welcome her!

...and stay tuned for more designs from this talented young, Russian artist

gotta love this type of recycling

...this is happy good stuff...
I love that Valerie Weberpal uses recycled wools and textiles in making her pillow-like art dolls.

They are all so charming, each singular in style...
festive and fun.

Val and her work were a big hit at the recent event at the Jeanine Taylor Folk Art Gallery
in Sanford, FL...

I cannot wait to see what she has up her sleeve... you see, Val never uses a pattern in making her Harvest Moon creations...

Yoo hoo to 100 Year Old Maker GRAM TESS and Skippy Doodle Designs...

Do you know these amazing women?
Here's Sue Parker and her
100 year old Grandma Tess --
her assistant
 at Skippy Doddle Designs!
They have a wonderful bond and share a love for making things....

Both agree, it's a fine thing to make something useful...
...and perhaps there's nothing finer than to find the humble worth in old bits and cast aside lovelies and make them anew...

Sue truly does just this with her
 Skippy Doodle Designs...
and yes, Gram keeps busy and useful herself by sitting with Sue, cutting, sewing a bit...

She loves how Sue collects so many little things and then celebrates them in her wondrous pin keeps, charming pin cushions and all sorts of notion-y fun...
and we do too!

Just take a peek at these latest arrivals and you'll see what I mean.
(...here's Gram working on sachets and pin keeps for the Nashville show...
you will see her work tagged GRAM 100)

I love that she is still sewing...
I love that she taught her granddaughter to sew so many years ago...

Sue makes things for fun, to bring her pieces, and to celebrate her love for re-purposing cast off things...

I hope you agree with me that her work is wonderfully sweet...Her Gram is proud of her and would tell you all herself if she met you!!!

Most of Sue's  pin keeps are $28 & $48 and come in two sizes... we've just loaded a wonderful new batch to the site...

And small pin cushions start at just a few dollars each...

Sue...I celebrate you and your style
...you know I admire you AND Gram!!!

xxoo Jen
