...AWAY...we go...with Julie

It must be that she makes me see the world a little differently,
or maybe see the sweeter and bittersweet sides
with equal consideration and kindness...

...but I am simply smitten with the new, and happily imperfect and utterly charming things that have arrived from Julie Arkell's London studio....

I have worked with Julie for so many years now...is it 10 or 12...
and in that time, I am still consistently amazed
when I hold one of
her creations in my hand...
the lovingly hand built paper mache
the simply stitched pinafores...they send me

I could live in a house just like this...simple and sweet

...here are some of my faves from the new grouping...
all are characters that spring from her new book "AWAY"...or are inspired by her new explorations from current projects...

and yes, copies of her first book "HOME" are back in stock... along with the new book...though availability is limited...

details on all of these and more are on her pages of the site...CLICK HERE

Thanks Julie for this wonderful new grouping of work...
it's an honor to work with you

hello Monday...hello Torquay Talk...

...hello Monday posts are something I have been doing for some time now linking up with my friend Lisa Leonard and her fab-u-lous blog...
feel free to leave your BLOG link in a comment...how about some hellos...

 Hello Monday...
I love when the different groups of people I know through collecting and sharing art, handmade and vintage collide...

It's almost impossible for me not to mix business with pleasure...
you see I work so hard, and I do what I love....
how could I not adore the kindred spirits with whom I work and
share a love for handmade and old things???

So hello to my NATS (North American Torquay Society) and TPCS (Torquay Pottery Collectors Society) friends joing to Art Girls Roadshow
in TN last month!

A big thanks to Hearst/Country Living & Stella Show Management for the opportunity to celebrate this wonderful antique pottery and its contributions to
surface decoration, folk art and handmade of today...

 Hello pretty green, faience pots...
As some of you know, I have been addicted to collecting Torquay pottery for many years...i got my first piece at age 17...here's a link to that story...

Hello pretty hutch of pots that sits behind me as I type this...

...and hello to my friends Brenda & Ian Kimber who made an appearance at the Country Living Fair in TN a part of the recent US tour...

Here are Brenda and Ian arriving...all the way from England...
ok they did not travel by golf cart from England...but the Stella and Hearst staff sure did welcome them with an escort when they arrived at the ground of the Country Living Fair...

It was a tremendous honor to have Brenda -- joined by her friend Kathy Collins (on left below) -- former president of NATS -- on the Main Stage to share her incredible wealth of knowledge...and present the history of the potteries
and give us a glimpse at the artistry and crafting style
that has had such an incredible impact on contemporary design.

The slides from Brenda's talk...are below...
she very graciously has allowed me to publish them here...
Thanks to Brenda for compiling this power point..and for sharing her knowledge of British Pottery...

Hello to collecting what we love...

...hello to making friends through sharing a passion for art and handmade

...hello to the adventures we have in hunting up antique loot
I am just back from Brimfield...woo hoo..

...hello new week...I am almost caught up from the TN Fair...but not quite...and now I am already working hard to get ready for the NY event which will be June 5-7...details here

Hello to learning more....
Have a peek at the slide below ...and if you are interested in learning more...
here's a link to the NATS site:
http://torquayus.org/
and thanks to NATS for hosting the daily NATS CHATS at the Fair...we had several enthusiastic collectors attend and I hope they join to organization to learn more and swap pots...

hello all my wonderful friends with whom I am lucky enough to do business

Have a great week all...

let's celebrate style....HELLO MONDAY

..hello Monday posts are something I have been doing for some time now linking up with my friend Lisa Leonard and her fab-u-lous blog...
feel free to leave your BLOG link in a comment...how about some hellos...

Hello Monday...

I can hardly breathe here.
Drowning in chores and to dos...but you know what???

It's all great stuff...
so I pause for a minute. Catch my breath and keep chugging.

Besides now I can go in the garden...ahhhh...
hello herbs and pansies already dug in...

Took my mom Rosie to the garden center with me...she was having a great day. Some days...are not so great with dementia...
but it was a fun trip, and I loved every minute of being with her.

So hello to putting aside what you think has to be done
to grab those moments...

...and hope it was a happy mother's day for all...

Helloooo Monday...I am off to Brimfield this week for some quick meet ups with antique dealer friends in from England and NATS friends Kathy and Lyn...

Hello new art posting to the site...love these busts from Nancy Wiley...

...and these toys from Jody...

Hello friend...it was great to spend a few hours with Laura Putnam of Finding Home...this is one special lady...here's a shot of her from last year at Rhinebeck...she brought be flowers, I love her forever!
She's up to some exciting new things with maple syrup....
hmmmm...more on that soon!

Hello assembling the work crew for this year's

Rhinebeck show...Luke, Sue, Harold, Allie, Charlotte AND SOPHIE (!!!!)

are on board...WHEW!!!

Hello summer...it's been in the 80s all week...
thought it might be spring for more than 2 weeks!
NY seems the land of extremes this year!

I am thrilled to be doing some pro bono entrepreneurial consulting with a really cool Family Circus from TN!  I also had a great chat with a food manufacturer, a jewelry designer and a talented woman in home decor...
this adds to my already full plate when I do this, but I love it...

Hello to The Painted Fern...we are celebrating her style with 20% off with code JOCELYN20 at checkout until 5/14...

Hello to all of you and have a super week, whatever it is that you are up to!!
xxoo Jen
