her heart's in it

Valerie Weberpal puts her heart in all she does...she's a wonderful Mom, a dedicated runner, a sweets aficionado, and an ever inspiring artist!

Her latest batch of goodies offer sweet eye candy for the heartful season at hand! They cheered me immeasurably when I opened the box that arrived from her studio...

Valerie has done a wonderful job using recycled and new textiles to create these one of a kind, pillow-like soft dollies. While she usually creates bunnies, cats and a bevy of other beasties, these heart-headed cuties have won me over.

Thanks Valerie!

Issue #2 - WWC!

It's here! Issue #2 of the new quarterly magazine "Where Women Create" has arrived...and just in time...I have read and re-read my now love-worn copy of the premier issue #1 -- pouring over every photo and detail and treasuring the inspiring stories of the creative women and their spaces that were featured.

And the truly great news, I think this issue is even better. It's tighter as a publication with oodles of juicy photos, captivating spaces and more inspiring, creative women.

Thanks to Jo Packham for the special opportunity to work with her on a few of the pieces included in issue #2...a story on our own Earth Angel --Deirdre Friebely and her Blackbird Design Studio, a new feature called "Artful Adventures" and a festive and funky event hosted by Victoria McKenzie-Childs (do you BLOG readers recall the posts on her WWC photo shoot and her Ferry Boat Ball)

Earth Angels has 50 copies in stock, you can call or email to order, or look for it at your Barnes & Noble, Lowes or Borders - they are stocking limited copies. Please consider a subscription at www.Stampington.com . Each issue is 144 full color pages and $14.95 + ship (but it's truly priceless, especially as other magazines fold, like the beloved HOME Companion...it's a great relief to have this on the scene.

Hope you love it as much as I do....and congrats again Jo!

Sweet News

Debbee Thibault has done it again!

How she continues to amaze me with her designs is a joy made only sweeter by our friendship.

Debbee has just announced her newest pieces for winter 2009...and we've included a group image here of her classic papier mache figures.

And wow! Her jewelry is utterly captivating and I am thrilled that these new pieces expand on the 3 charm sets -- as necklaces -- that she created exclusively for Earth Angels in 2008...this is the start of something great.

We will be e-mailing full details to those of you on our mailing list who collect and admire Debbee's work. Watch your in-box for full details....

To show her newest works, Debbee will visit us here in Warwick, NY next week as a featured artist at our 2nd annual "heART of winter" event...she will then attend another Earth Angels event in Costa Mesa, California on March 21st hosted at the renown locale "Paris to the Moon" -- details to follow.

Congrats to Debbee on another season of beautiful art -- some of it wearable! -- I cannot wait to see you and these new pieces next week!

#16 - we'll be here

So many of you have asked for a look at the location for the 2nd Annual "heART of winter"...YES, we have moved this year to "The McEwen Street Studio"...just steps off Main Street in historic downtown Warwick...at #16 McEwen Street.

It's a charming space...3 stories with an open floor plan. This house from the 1840s was renovated by Mayor Michael Newhard and his wife Judy Pederesen, both artists. After using it as studio space themselves, they have converted it into a gallery space with rotating shows...Our "heART of winter" event will be the second art show the space has hosted in 2009...with more are to come.

Jill and Lisa took a quick tour with Michael one snowy day last week. They loved it...

...Hope you can join us to see the space on 1/31 and 2/1 when it will be filled with the fabulous creations of the participating artists!

use www.maps.google.com for directions...

PS For those of you who attended last year, we will not be at "The Country Life" but just across the street and, just arund the corner from Akin's Pharmacy...

Thanks to the editors and staff for their enthusiastic promotion of our artists and this event (...and the wonderful image of the Dara DiMagno necklaces set on a Jennifer Lanne painting).

We sure do hope you can all make the trip to Warwick to join in the festivities...meet the artists...and see the art.

Surfin' Safari

I have to confess, I escaped the cold for 3 days and it was wonderfully restorative. I caught the plane to catch a wave...and found there's nothing like being tossed around in the surf with good friends.

Lori was keen to celebrate her sister Kathy's 35th birthday in some memorable way, so along with Sheb, the 4 of us flew south to a beach house of a pal in Rincon, Puerto Rico. They didn't need the house for the weekend so why not stay there and explore the beaches...

I had no clue that this was surfers' paradise. The waves swarm in morning and afternoon with long boards, short boards, and all manner of wave worshipping riders...It was fabulous to catch a bit of a subculture I knew knowing about beyond Beach Boys songs and B movies.

I talk to everyone (often to the annoyance of my travelling companions -- but not really)so I learned a lot by listening and then watching, we even caught a surf contest at "The Domes"...(the surf spots all have names...like "Crash Boat", "Spanish Wall", "Indicators" and such). What a treat.

I teased the kids that I was in search of Big Z (if you don't know anyone under 7 you will not get this)...and that I might not be home til I mastered the surf.

Thanks Puerto Rico....and thanks Lori, Sheb, and Kathy most of all for the wonderful excuse to celebrate you!

a new light

It's cold here in the Hudson River Valley; and it's getting colder. The days are short and twilight comes all to soon making the afternoons fleeting and the evenings long and dark. This isn't typically the stuff that inspires color play and new work...

Yet, Jennifer Lanne is not at all a typical type of girl. How wonderful to see that she's seeing things in a new light this winter.

Jennifer lives and works on a farm that dates from the 1760s. It's magic there with a wonderful collection of old buildings and old wood everywhere...once again her surroundings have served up inspiration...She has started to paint on old barn boards and the results are wonderfully tactile and oh so pretty. These arrivals have brightened my day and I was eager to share them.

These beauties will debut at the "heART of winter" in just a bit more than 2 weeks. See them in person on 1/31 and 2/1 in Warwick, NY or keep a keen eye on the in-box if you are on our mailing list....

As the dark, dreary days pass by, all the best to keep warm and cozy...and hope something new and bright comes your way this wintry day.
