Day Trip Lafayette

Here we are with just some of our loot from a day antiquing in Lafayette, NJ. It’s collection of antique shops is well worth a day trip...

I love to take a run down to Lafayette…it’s about 40 minutes due south from me in Warwick, NY (or a short 45 miles hop from Manhattan). A free morning or afternoon seems to offer just enough time to squeeze in a trip. Gal Pal Kathy…of former blog post fame…is always up for an adventure, so we hopped in the car and drove down to meet up with the famous Little Red Robin & Denny the Hood…

The lot of us are usually only together during Earth Angels’ events, so it was great fun for us to prowl around and potter about with no set schedule. We scoured the Lafayette Mill Antiques Center and found a few savory treats…Kathy said I just had to buy this parasol – it said ME to her!

Here's Robin lugging a primitive bird house...her hubby Denny is a big collector of shaving memorabilia (I laugh at this because he has a beard) and she collects sewing notions and of course, she is not a stitcher! I also nabbed a wee red child’s chair and a tiny wooden cabinet for my mini torquay pottery…Kathy was holding out for what would later prove to be the find of the day…a huge brown transferware ironstone pitcher for a mere $20. It looks great on her hutch ..ohhh ahhhh

After a yummy lunch ( the daily special runs a whopping $5.25!) of grilled cheese and tomato with mushroom barley soup…we dined on huge slabs of peach pie…order the one you’d like when you sit down at the Millside Café…there’s never enough to go around and I warned my companions that we’d be disappointed if we didn’t choose early on in the meal!!

We saved my very favorite stop for last...Sweet Pea's. Owner Patti Bruterri has a fabulous selection of treasures...furniture and stylish smalls that she displays with aplomb. Offerings very month to month, and many pieces pay homage to European Country, Shabby Chic and Classic Country. I truly love everything in her store and I can never seem to leave empty-handed! She is open Thursday - Monday....

Isn't it so pretty... I want that chandelier for my mudroom...Patti what's the price, I am not sure I can resist any longer...

Look at those fab and funky green shutters...

Here's Robin buying yes, a sewing cabinet from the charming Patti...

I hope you'll find time for an adventure or two with friends this summer. And if you are anywhere nearby...add Layfayette to your must see list.
xxoo Jen

Hurray for Lafayette!! It's my hometown! We live dangerously close to the antiques stores and frequent them far too often! ;)
It looks like you found some lovely treasures!

I am sitting here all alone and forlorn in Georgia wishing I could have joined your foursome. I must admit to my petty jealousy over Robin's new green sewing cabinet. I love field trips with fun friends. Happy pie,
Jody

It sounds like you had a wonderful day of antiquing. I love the birdhouse and the little red chair.
I'm glad you were able to find time to be with friends for a day of shopping and lunch.
Yummy...peach pie is my favorite...warmed up with a scoop of ice cream.
