My own toast to 2012

Another new year is served up to me...I am grateful...so very grateful.
Let us toast...

...I am supremely confident that my life is a work in progress. This frees me from the hope of completing any of my “to-do” lists and entitles me to learn with gusto.

The idea of being perfectly incomplete gives me the excuse to just perhaps, try something new, mend a heart, change my mind, or make a friend. I remind myself that I am in dire need of patience, fortitude and strength, and that these attributes will never accumulate in quantities beyond what life might demand.

An so, the end of one year and the arrival of a new one is that firm and steady reminder of the march of time. And with it, the ceaselessness of the chores, responsibilities and the delightful diversions that accompany each day. A merry medley of “to-dos” and “atta-girls” coupled with the unexpected and the knowledge that contentment is a constant feast.

What a wonderful excuse, this change of the calendar, to pause and measure the blessings of my idiosyncratic life. Laden with people and places and burdened, as are we all, I adore the days and with them the memories of the time that has been, is and will be.

Yet, there is no heaviness of spirit as the clock winds down and then up with the charge of the months ahead. I am grateful that you are all within them.

And so I offer you this from a piece of my favorite Torquay pottery from Devon, “Long may you live, happy may you be, blessed with contentment and from misfortune free.”

Sláinte in Irish…or in English, Cheers! ...or Prost or or or...whatever you say that makes you pause in homage to the promise of this new year...
xxoo Jen

PS...you blog readers who follow me have seen this post before...it seems the year has melted away and I am forever in its debt for all that it brought to me. I feel as if my life is on fast forward and the rest of the world is on play somedays...but I take it all in stride and welcome the gift of the new year...

What a great post and "toast" - no excuses needed to take this journey day by day - to be able to look back at the year and say "I gave it my best" is enough for me to start a new year with big dreams! The best to you and all your endeavors this year of 2012!
