Leo is an Art Fan

I had a wonderful visit from Mother and Daughter painters, Diana Card and Deirdre Friebely. They brought their latest creations up to Earth Angels and we spent the afternoon together.

...And the best part, we go to meet Baby Leo...Deirdre's 4 month old is a little gem of a babe. Such a snuggle nugget -- we enjoyed him so very much.

Thanks ladies for sharing the day and for the wonderful new works...here are some of my faves...

From the new GrandMa Diana Card...
And from the New Momma Deirdre Friebely...
Diana, I cannot wait to spend some more time with you at The Country Living Fair! Wish we could bring Leo with us!

Learning from Leslie

Earth Angels artist and gal pal Leslie McCabe invited us to visit for the day. It was my plan to photo her fab studio for an upcoming issue of "Where Women Create" (watch for a sneak peek of her space in an upcoming blog post), but to make it more fun, she invited me to bring the kids to visit with her granddaughters and learn a thing or two about rug hooking...

Here are some of my favorite pics of all the kids learning from Leslie...
Leslie, you really do take one of the Very Best GrandMa's ever awards! I loved watching your girls work with you, express their own style and make art with you. Thanks for including us.

When I grow up, I think I want to be a kid and spend the day at Leslie's house... and then stay over in the most wonderful of kiddie bedrooms.
Ahhhhh...
Thanks Leslie for a wonderful visit...we'll come play again soon...

See more of Leslie's work on her webpage on the site...

Thanks again Leslie!

Junk Pile Magic

There are those among us that see promise in the castoff, beauty in the worn and loved, and just perhaps real magic in the reclaiming of what others see as lost to another time...

Here is a pile of junk that made me want to reuse, recycle and reclaim to cherish anew...

Thanks to my gal pals who shared this ethereal junk yard walk...

Muggle Silliness

Rory really loves Harry Potter. No, I mean really loves. He recites the lines, he says the spells, he's listened to the books on tape, he's watched the movies a bajillion times, and he somehow convinced -- on quite short notice -- a good number of us to dress up for him to celebrate his 4th birthday Hogwarts-style.

We had some Harrys, a Gilderoy, a Ginny, a Luna and yes, Madame Trelawny. Various witches and wizards -- disguised convincingly as muggles...were also present.

Happy Birthday to the aspiring wizard, and thanks to all of you wonderfully silly, and oh so fabulous family members, for making his celebration memorable!

Cheers (with a butter beer of course...)

Laurie's Summer Studio

Each summer, painter Laurie Meseroll moves back to Woodstock, NY and ensconces herself among the Catskill Mountains and the town she loves. There, she maintains a small sunny studio in the outbuildings of her family's homestead. But on those days, when the weather is nice, she moves her painting outside and spends the day working on pieces in the shade of her trees.

We made the trip to Woodstock earlier this week to meet fellow Earth Angels artist, potter Jill Wiener, and spent the day with Laurie and her daughters Tasie and Sophie. We watched Laurie paint and shared in the joy of being outdoors.

Here are some of my fave images from our day together...

Laurie and the interior of her summer studio space, along with more images of her painting seminars, will be featured in an upcoming issue of Where Women Create magazine. We'll keep you posted!

Until then, I am taking Laurie's lessons in stride... this post was written al fresco! I am enjoying a summer's afternoon on the porch.

New work from Laurie can be seen on her webpage of our site and will be sent via email to those on her email update list later this week...

A Merry Un-Birthday

There always seems to be a party, a celebration or some kind of merry-making at Charlotte's Tea Room...ranked #1 in New York State, this local jewel recently donned its best for a merry un-birthday tea party...

A competition was hosted in our downtown recently called "Show me the door..."; retailers were invited to decorate their facades in anything festive. All entries were noteworthy, but none topped the mood captured by Charlotte's Tea Room with their "Alice in Wonderland-esque" interpretation of the competition's theme...

Here are some of my fave shots of the display....I loved the waitresses dressed as Alice and the croquet game that ensued!

A big congrats to owner, Joanne Graney, for this wonderful display as well as the fabulous spread on Charlotte's in the new issue of "Where Women Create" magazine.. You can see the issue to read more about the tearoom or visit TeaMap.com and see the restaurant's location, hours, reviews and more about their special events and catering...

A very merry un-birthday to you!

Troy Trip - Lanne Gallery

When it was time to pick up the islands Ken and Steph had built for our "currently under renovation" kitchen, I rented a U-Haul, picked up my big sister Roseanna and headed upstate.

Somehow we managed to sneak in a side trip to the Bournebrook Antiques Center in Troy and I cannot wait to go back!

On the second floor, painter Jennifer Lanne has created a gallery among the fabulous furnishings of her friend Stephanie Lloyd.

Just look at these paintings...there are some amazing mixed media creations and works on canvas...Yes, you can contact me for info on these pieces; at this writing all are available...

Seeing Jennifer's work scattered about with such statement pieces got me yearning to move my art around and make room for more...

Here are some other images of the antiques offerings on the first floor, downstairs from the gallery...Jackie, it was great meeting you......I brought those 3 stools home for one of the new islands -- thanks Roseanna for spotting them and Jackie, thanks for the super deal!
The Bournebrook Antique Center and Jennifer's gallery there are open Monday-Saturday, 10 to 5 and Sunday, noon to 5...I so need to plan another day trip! (Kathy are you up for an adventure???)

Pictures from a Trip

Warning, you might want to skip this post if require a vacation to offer running water, items that plug in, or soft bedding...

Camping in the Adirondacks calls as a siren with old mountains that stand sentinel to deep lakes with crystal clear water and air that makes breathing almost heady...

Each year we rent a boat, load up our gear and head out to the islands on Lake George. Our extended family has done this since the 1960s and each year there is some conflagration of assorted Aunts and Uncles and cousins upon these islands. This year there were 18 of us -- a relatively quiet one -- with last year topping the charts at 50+ and an armada of boats...

Here are some of my favorite pictures from our trip...

I love that my kids love it like I did when I was a little girl... and that they feel comfortable being outside all day, eating whatever we can pull together, and reading aloud each night by the campfire.

Reservations for the Lake George Island Campgrounds can be made at www.ReserveAmerica.com...we recommend the Glen Island Group accessible from Bolton Landing, NY.

Hoping your summer is filled with adventure...
